Q&A: Are Pleated Pants Out of Style?

Question about pleated pants

QUESTION:  Although I am 29, many of my colleagues say I dress like an old man. I get made fun of moslty for my pants, which are all pleated (often double pleats). I really like pleats and thought they were still considered cool. Are pleats still in?

ANSWER:  If you look good in pleats, then pleats are always in style – for you.   But to be fair, there is a Part II and III.

Part II – It could be time to update your pleats: better fabric, lower rise, single pleat, a smaller cuff, etc. All these things effect how your clothes look on you. If you’re wearing the same cheapo clothes you wore in college then you look stuck in a time warp – and old.

Part III:  An outfit is a sum of it’s parts.  If your “grandpa pleats” are paired withuneventful  shirts, ties and accessories, then the pleats are not the only problem, it’s what accompanying them!

Take a good look in the mirror and honestly ask yourself, is it time for a wardrobe intervention?

FYI: One of the nice thing about being male is that men aren't expected to be slaves to fashion: leave that superficiality to women and teenagers.  You are also beyond college years so the ability to think for yourself when it comes to fashion is even more "acceptable".

If you literally are wearing the same clothes from your college days then the items themselves might be worn out and need replacements.   I've also noticed that pleats will make weird fan-shaped creases from sitting for prolonged periods of time.

I found this article while looking for new pants.  I hate pants.  They're thick, uncomfortable, hot, tug on the knees, and only fit well when standing up or sitting down but not both.  Thankfully, have generally worked in businesses where profitability and productivity were considered more important than wardrobe requirements, but now I need a few pairs of pants.  Did you know they make them out of thin materials now that are actually halfway comfortable and don't require ironing?

Do pleats work well with clown shoes????

When it comes to pleats it really depends on the body type. If you are a trim guy and the please lay well on you then go for it. But if the pleats are pulling then I would recommend going for flat fronts. A flat front slack can be a trimmer cut so it looks great on the very slim dresser as well.
