A Myth about Men’s Fashion

People always say that men’s fashion doesn’t change very often and I agree… sort of. While men’s fashion doesn’t drastically change from year to year,  there are other changes that effect men’s fashion, for example, life changes, bodies change and seasons change.

The myth may have some merit but waiting for a major change in men’s fashion before you do a total image overhaul, is not a good idea. Here’s a few ways to tell if it’s time to change your clothes.

Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, (I just wanted to say that) is to evaluate your wardrobe for the next 30 days. For every garment that you put on, you must ask yourself these three questions:

1) Does this fit my current lifestyle? Think about it for a minute, are you still a suit guy or have you evolved into business casual attire. If your life has changed and your wardrobe hasn’t, what the heck are you wearing?

2) Can I still fit this and look good in it? You may be able to fit it BUT do you still look good in it? There’s a big difference. I can’t tell you how many times men wear things just because they are hanging in the closet.  If you don’t look good in it, pass it along.

3)  Do I look current and in season? This may be a strange question to ask but how often do you update your wardrobe based on the season?  Spring and summer call for a lighter wardrobe, lighter colors and clothes. Dark ties and suits will make you look out of season and out of touch.

This may be a simple assignment but hopefully you’ll start to see men’s fashion in another light.

Once you begin to think about these questions, you’ll know what to do next if you want to Look, Feel and Be, better than the next guy. And of course, if you need honest, objective answers, just ask.  I’m here to help.

  • Great point. Thanks for sharing.
  • I agree that men's fashion is somewhat hard. But knowing and having your own style can be very helpful. Having some guts to pull off some new stuff is also a good idea.
